Transformation of the Laboratory since the time of the First World War (Paul Langevin). Between the two wars, topics related to: under-water and aerial detection; anti-corrosion; non-destructive control of materials and structures (X-rays and ultrasounds). Since the last war, its evolution was linked to: reconstruction; environment; mechanical behavior, particularly vibratory, of materials and structures; acoutstic and vibratory comfort; human perception; under-water acoustics.

Founded by François Canac (1886-1969) in 1941, the Laboratoire de méchanique et d'acoustique (LMA) is one of the oldest institutions within the CNRS which was created in 1939.
