Letters, 1826-1870.

The collection consists of personal letters sent by Prosper Mérimée to friends, and letters written in his capacity as Inspecteur général des Monuments Historiques et Antiquités Nationales. Some letters discuss his own publications, and his theories on restoration and the arts as history. A few of the letters are illustrated and some are written in English.
