Autobiographical letter, 1812 May 1.

To an unnamed gentleman remembering the compliments of a gift of "Theorie de l'Art des Jardins by Hirchfield," which he had made to Repton in 1788 at the commencement of his career; reflecting briefly on the place of landscape gardening in the arts and on Repton's place in the profession; and offering a copy of his Landscape Gardening, now out of print. With a draft reply on the verso (from which the correspondent's name might be identifiable), accepting the offer and inviting Repton to advise on his farm for which he wants "much embellishment at little cost."
