Summary: Letters, photographs, ledgers, scrapbooks, and oversize images reflecting the Levy family history, their department store business in southern Arizona, and Leon Levy's extensive community involvement. The collection is primarily concerned with Leon Levy including extensive personal correspondence, ledger books with investments and expenditures, newspaper clippings about the department store, legal documents, stockholder and board meeting notes, and financial statements. Correspondence highlights Leon's work with the Arizona Board of Regents, fund raising for the University of Arizona Cancer Research Center and other organizations. These files also contain information about organizations including the finance committee for the re-election of Gov. Paul Fannin, the Tubac Valley Country Club, Planned Parenthood, Skyline Country Club, the Tucson Airport Authority, Tucson Conquistadors, Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Tucson Museum of Art, and the Tucson 30 Club. There is a small amount of correspondence with Barry Goldwater and Lewis W. Douglas. Store records include store buyer's bulletins, merchandising plan, financial statements, publicity, market study, etc. There are photographs of three generations of Levy family members, as well as a few images of the early department stores, and more of the later stores and Leon's community activities. There is also an image of Leon Levy at the ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the opening of Green Valley in 1975 and images of the groundbreaking for El Con Shopping Mall and the new Levy's store that include the El Conquistador Hotel in the background and a bulldozer on the side.

Biographical note: Pioneer merchant family; Jacob and Mamie Levy opened the first store, the Red Star General Store, in Douglas, Ariz. in 1903; by 1912, it was the Levy Brothers Dry Goods Company. In 1919, a second store, the El Pasco Store opened, and in 1925, the Fair Store was opened in Bisbee. By 1935, Jacob Levy and his sons, Aaron and Leon, moved to Tucson and opened Levy's.
