Papers relating to English pewter, 1924-1933.

Primarily lists and notes relating to English pewter, apparently used in preparing "The Church Plate of the County of Essex" (published 1926). Included is a list of freemen in the Pewterers Company to 1824, copied from manuscripts at Pewterers Hall, London, with annotations, pewter rubbings, and designs illustrating devices. The list is useful in helping to date English pewterware. Also included: a list of touches (maker's marks) at Pewterers Hall; a list of miscellaneous touches; notes on dating, cleaning and pricing pewter; records of pewter vessels in English churches; and illustrations depicting representative English pewter vessels. With two letters received by Pressey, 1924 and 1933; a small photograph of a pewter church vessel of 1716; and ca. thirty miscellaneous pewter rubbings, with occasional annotations.
