Letter : Köln, to Hofrat Oppenhoff, Bonn, 1834.

Letter signed Balduin von S. (possibly von Seel) critiques Karl Friedrich Schinkel's design of the Altes Museum in Berlin. The writer admires the facade but is critical of the "undersized" cast-iron eagles and the length of the inscription on the frieze. He also criticizes the interior, specifically questioning the relevance of the statue of Napoleon in Roman attire; noting that on the upper floor only paintings hanging very high could be seen well; and also noting that the frames seem too perfect, thereby disturbing restful viewing. He does compliment the arrangement by school and period. Letterhead consists of a colored lithograph image of the Museum.
