Letters, ca. 1812-1855.

Letters are addressed to several correspondents, many unspecified, and cover a wide variety of topics ranging from personal matters to affairs of the French Academy in Rome. There is some reference to travel and work in progress, as well as to the careers of his father and grandfather. Correspondents include Charles Leon Vinit, Secretary of the Ecole des Beaux Arts (n.d.); the Comte de Saint-Aulaire, French Ambassador to Rome (1832); M. de Cailleux, secretaire general des Musees Royaux (1832). Plus a long (4 page) letter of 1830 to Pierre-Narcisse Guerin evokes in great detail the internal politics of the Academy and events in Rome resulting from the French revolution of 1830, with mention of Cardinal Albani. Collection also includes several receipts of payment for paintings, a printed notice of Vernet's death, and five letters written by Vernet's wife, Louise, about personal business (1840-1846). In chronological order.

ca. 29 items.
