Photographs taken by Captain Delanneau while serving as military surveyor of the upper Senegal and Niger rivers. The images document the series of campaigns in western Sudan undertaken by Lieutenant-Colonel Archinard between 1888-1891, finalizing the French conquest. As stated in the dedication on the fly-leaf, Delanneau presented the album to Lieutenant-Colonel Humbert, who served as "Commandant Supérieur" between 1891-1892. Includes general views of villages and countryside, with details of village architecture, and group portraits of French officers with indigenous leaders. Many of the images are captioned in pencil. There are also portraits of a medicine man and the family of village chief, Dialafasa. Manuscript list of plates included on the last leaf.
