John Balaban correspondence and poems., 1979-1980.

The collection consists of 8 letters, 3 poems, and 1 photograph. Five letters (4 from W.S. Merwin and 1 from Ellen Masters) concern the visit of Merwin to Pennsylvania State University's Institute for the Arts and Humanistic Studies in April 1980 for a poetry reading, and Merwin's travels in Pennsylvania at that time. There is also 1 unrelated letter from Richard Hugo and 1 to Charles Mann. In addition there are 2 special printings of Balaban's poems "Walking down into Cebolla Canyon," and "For Ralph Condee," and an inscribed photocopy of "For Elmer Borklund, a toast." Finally, there is a photograph of Balaban with members of the Union of Bulgarian Writers taken at a poetry reading, Nov. 1980, accompanied by a cover letter from Balaban.
