The artist answers the letter of Mr. Johnson, his friend, and regrets that the illness of his wife will not allow him to attend "the great and important occurrence that is to transpire tomorrow," when his friend will get "to lay the corner stone." He is waiting for an answer from Mr. Garland regarding the sketch of a book-mark he has sent him, and would be glad to engrave it gratis.
