Primarily letters received from British painters and engravers, including Sir Edward Poynter (2), William Powell Frith (4), Joseph B. Pratt (4), Sir Edwin Landseer, Thomas Faed, Sir John Everett Millais (2), Philip Richard Morris, Abraham Cooper, Edward Villiers Rippingville, Briton Riviere, Frederick Goodall, Frank Holl and Sir Francis Grant, concerning engraving. Most relate to proposals for projects, commissions or payments for work completed. One of Poynter's letters (1898), however, concerns an exhibition of English paintings in St. Petersburg, Russia, and Riviere's letter relates to the Artists' Benevolent Fund. Included is a 3 p. contract (folder 3) with Thomas Agnew and Sons, 1868, transferring the copyright of a Millais painting to H. Graves and Co.
