Oral history interview with Lamont Moore, 1990 November 7.

=aLamont Moore joined the staff of the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., as curator of education before the Gallery's opening in 1941. Soon thereafter he joined the U.S. Army and served with the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives Section during World War II, returning to the National Gallery briefly before leaving for a position at the American Academy in Rome. Moore described his early experiences at the Newark Museum and the initial organization of the National Gallery. He recalled setting up educational programs there, including tours of the permanent collection and educational lectures. He noted experiences during World War II and described circumstances associated with shipment of paintings of Berlin museums to the National Gallery immediately after the war.
