These records document nearly all of Giacconi's professional career, and consist mainly of professional papers documenting his scientific work. Administrative records from ASE and STSI, if any, are fragmentary. A significant body of such records exisits for Giacconi's CFA work. There is extensive documentation of Giacconi's professional activities, including meetings attended, papers presented, his services as officer or board member of probessional societies; grants, proposals, and contracts, mainly with NASA; corresponence with colleagues; slides and photographs of many facilities with which Giacconi was associated, some unidentified; news clippings and press releases; a few appointment books and journals; and files documenting his association with Montedison. Major projects that are well-documented include the High Energy Astronomy Observatory, Uhuru, the X-ray Telescope, and the Einstein Observatory.
