Signed and dated letter from the Maréchal de France Bassompierre accompanying a report about some "machines" ordered by Richelieu. Bassompierre appeals to the Prime Minister to intercede for the promotion of the count of Riberac's son to the command of his regiment, following the recent death of his father. He reminds Richelieu of the good services of the count and his other son, who also died in the line of duty.

Bassompierre was a military hero and a successful diplomat. Made Maréchal of France by Louis XIII in 1622, and highly regarded by Richelieu, he became influential in the royal council.
