[Jeff and Kathryn Breedlove collection] / Jeff and Kathryn Breedlove. ca. 1928-2007.

The Kathryn and Jeff Breedlove political collection consists of commercially produced videotapes, audiotapes, politically oriented books, and a large variety of political artifacts collected from 1980-2007. The collection was started during Jeff Breedlove's college involvement with Young Republican groups. Included among the videos are Republican National Committee commercial spots, Rep. Newt Gingrich workshops, campaign spots for Sen. Bob Dole and Rep. Bob Barr, and a debate between Gingrich and President Bill Clinton. The audiotapes include speeches by Gingrich and other congressmen, policy talks by conservatives such as Bill Kristol, Ralph Reed and William Bennett, and a speech by President Ronald Reagan. A variety of books by such writers as P.J. O'Rourke, Richard Viguerie, Bob Dole, and Henry Kissinger are included. The largest portion of the collection consists of political artifacts. This includes a George W. Bush talking doll, numerous t-shirts, coffee mugs, and bumper stickers. Also included is a John Kennedy commemorative plate, Ronald and Nancy Reagan bedroom shoes, and a felt hat alleged to have been worn in the first (1928) Hoover presidential campaign. The Breedloves also collected souvenirs from a number of political events and conventions that they attended, such as programs, tickets, and invitations. Jeff Breedlove has worked on a number of political campaigns, and the collection includes notebooks and binders from the campaigns of Bob Barr (1994 and 1996) and J. D. Hayworth (1998). Finally, the collection includes a large number of campaign posters and signs from campaigns run by such politicians as Gingrich, Barr, Jack Kemp, Joe Frank Harris, Trent Lott, and the Bush/Cheney campaign. The collection has an emphasis on Republican politicians, campaigns and events of the 1990s, but includes material on a few Democrats such as President Kennedy and the Mondale/Ferarro campaign of 1984.
