Letters to Ludwig Pietsch, 1882-1896.

Thirteen letters to the German painter, art critic and chief art correspondent of the Berlin paper "Vossische Zeitung", 1882-1896, discuss professional and personal matters. Of special interest are two letters commenting on an exhibition by Vereshchagin in Berlin: one letter, 1882 Feb. 20, indicates that despite a reduced entry fee the German military authorities were not cooperating in sending their soldiers to the exhibition; the second, 1882 March 14, reflects the artist's pacifist tendencies and his compassion for the victims of war.
