Agnes Cochran Bramblett papers, 1904-1974.

The collection contains the papers of Agnes Cochran Bramblett from 1904-1974. The papers include correspondence, photographs, handwritten and typed drafts of poems and other writings, awards, newspaper clippings, and scrapbooks. The correspondence primarily concerns her appointment as Georgia's poet laureate. The two scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings regarding the publication of her poetry interspersed with invitations, some correspondence, and photographs. Additional newspaper clippings in the papers document her work as poet laureate. There are a number of drafts of poems included in the papers, both handwritten in composition books and typewritten.

Agnes Cochran Bramblett (1886-1979), was a poet and Georgia's first female poet laureate. She was born in Summerville, Georgia, on October 3, 1886 to William David and Mary Elizabeth Goolsby Cochran. She married Augustus Walter Bramblett on June 14, 1908 and moved to Forsyth, Georgia. They had two children: Antoinette and Walter. Her first book of poetry was published in 1927, followed by five more books of poetry and a novel, My Brother, Oh My Brother. Bramblett taught Sunday School at the Fors...
