Letters and printed materials, 1880-1919.

The letters include discussions of the sale of others' works, suggestions on hanging his own works, and short notes to friends. Of particular note are a letter of 1883 in which he asks the commissaire general of the Palais de l'industrie, Prétet, to support his student, Jean Renaud, and another of 1892 in which he writes that he is sending the portrait of the Duke d'Aumale to Moscow after the closing of the exhibition of the Cercle Artistique. The correspondents are mostly unidentified, but include Levèque-Voutier, and Maurice. The collection also contains offprints of two articles written by Henri Demesse, and three photographs of the artist, including one taken in his studio standing before a self portrait, by Braun, Clément & Cie., signed.
