Diary, 1862-1865, written while serving in Co. D, 20th Michigan Infantry in the Civil War, recounting daily activities and the sieges of Knoxville and Petersburg; correspondence, mainly with his mother and wife, while a student at University of Michigan and during the Civil War; letter, Dec. 6, 1880, to William H. Pettee concerning the establishment of a school of mines at the University; letter, Sept. 18, 1905, to Harry B. Hutchins discussing the relative merits of the Michigan Union and Alumni Memorial building projects; paper, Oct. 18, 1899, on the Battle of Horse Shoe Bend, in Kentucky, during the Civil War; and miscellaneous deeds; also papers, 1833-1866, of his father Joseph Grant of Lebanon, Maine, and papers, 1848-1855, of his brother Otis M. Grant of Lebanon, Maine and Terre Haute, Indiana; and photographs.
