The Metrolitan District Commission's Water Division and its predeceessors were responsible for construction, maintenance, and operation of a system of water works for the Metropolitan Water District, consisting of Boston and surrounding communities. The chief engineer had oversight of the operations of the board. Outgoing correspondence to boards in other cities and regions within the state concerns the general operations relating to the provision of water to citizens of Massachusetts, right-of-way, requests for specifications, accounts, contracts, and personnel.
