Augustin Challamel letters received, ca. 1834-1845.

Letters addressed to Challamel primarily in his capacity as director of the journal La France littéraire (1832-1843) generally concerning illustrations and prints appearing in the journal. The letters are from several painters and sculptors including Decamps, Tony Johannot, Louis Boulanger, David d'Angers, Antoine Etex, Eugène Delacroix, Antoine Préault and the author Edouard de Beaumont-Vassy. The collection also includes six or more letters which appear to be addressed to Challamel's brother, the painter Jules Challamel, from the music historian Augustin Savard (ca. 1834-1871).
