Autograph letter signed. Requests that the batteries of Captains Jones and Motkowski be assigned to the 112 Pennsylvania Volunteers and that the artillery battalion at Fort Delaware be ordered and assigned for duty in the defenses of Washington. Letter also contains autograph signed endorsements.

John G. Barnard was born into a large and gifted family in Sheffield, Massachusetts. His brother, Frederick Augustus Porter Barnard was a longtime educator and president of Columbia University and namesake of Barnard College in New York City.
