James Noble letters to Nehemiah Noble, 1819-1821.

Four ALS written by James Noble from Saint Louis and Saint Charles, Missouri Territory, to Nehemiah Noble, a member of his family, in Bethel, Vermont. Letters describe life in Saint Louis, including discussion of agriculture and the prevalence of dueling. In three letters written from Saint Louis in 1819, Noble discusses his opinions on cession of the Floridas by Spain, the progress of the United States's expedition to the mouth of the Yellowstone River, and travel in Illinois and Missouri. A letter written from Saint Charles, dated August 27, 1821, discusses failure of the Bank of Missouri. Noble also briefly refers to activities of Manuel Lisa in Saint Louis, and he refers to family news.
