A manuscript case report for a phrenological reading of the character and mental development of Mr. J.F. Bostonn, identified as "Dr. Jno F. Boynton" at head of the text. Subject may possibly be John Farnham Boynton (1811-1890), who studied medicine and was a geologist and member of the original Quorum of Twelve Apostles in the Latter Day Saints movement (disfellowshipped and excommunicated in 1837).

Orson Squire Fowler, phrenologist, was born in Cohocton, New York, on October 11, 1809, and died in Connecticut on August 18, 1887. In October 1838, he issued in Philadelphia the first number of the AMERICAN PHENOLOGICAL JOURNAL. Among his many volumes on phrenology and kindred subjects are MEMORY AND INTELLECTUAL IMPROVEMENT (1841), PHYSIOLOGY, ANIMAL AND MENTAL (1842), and MATRIMONY, OR PHRENOLOGY APPLIED TO THE SELECTION OF COMPANIONS (1842).
