H.G. Harriman letter : Camp Lander, South Hamilton, Mass., to sister, 1862 Oct. 17.

Handwritten letter of an enlisted soldier in the Union Army during the Civil War. He writes that they have received marching orders to proceed to New Bern, North Carolina and is looking forward to participating in the fight for Charleston, South Carolina. He understands there is a risk he might not survive adding, "...but I should glory in falling in the taking of Charleston. I want to see the city burn down first though."

Camp Lander was a Massachusetts Militia camp during the Civil War in what is now South Hamilton, Massachusetts.
