Jordan Hall program scrapbooks, 1903-1964 (bulk 1904-1932)

These twenty-seven scrapbooks were inventoried and rehoused by Anne Morgan in 2010-2011. The contents (with the exception of one: September 1910-June 1912) are primarily made up of programs from performances of non-Conservatory events-- in other words outside individuals and organizations that used Jordan Hall as their performance space. These scrapbooks contain programs presented by individual artists, chamber ensembles, clubs, fraternities and sororities, charity organizations, schools of dance, musical or theater societies, and local educational institutions. Among the large number of individual artists who performed are: Marian Anderson, Martha Baird, Harold Bauer, Mrs. H.H.A. Beach, David Bispham, Reginald Boardman, Ferrucio Busoni, Teresa Carenno, Pablo Casals, Edmond Clement, Frederick Converse (a performance of his Pipe of Desire), George Copeland, Julia Culp, Gertrude Ehrhart, Marcel Dupre, Ossip Gabrilowitsch, Heinrich Gebhard, Howard Goding, Emilio de Gogorza , Percy Grainger, Maud Cuney Hare, George Henschel, Myra Hess, Ernest Hutcheson, Fritz Kreisler, Ethel Leginska, Mischa Levitzki, Lee Pattison, Vladimir de Pachmann , Harrison Potter, Arthur Rubenstein, Ernest Schelling, Andres Segovia, Nicholas Slonimsky, Mme. Szumowska, and Marcia Van Dresser. A sampling of the clubs or musical organizations that performed in Jordan Hall during this period are: the Apollo Club, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Hasty Pudding Club, the Boston Operatic Society, the Choral Art Society, the Mendelssohn Club, the Thursday Morning Club, the MacDowell Club, the Cecilia Society, the Deutsche Theater-Gesellschaft von Boston, the Lend a Hand Dramatic Club, the Boston Civic Symphony, the People's Symphony Orchestra, the Gilchrist Company Benefit Association, and the Boston Women's Symphony. Among the chamber groups to perform were the Adamowski Quartet and the Flonzaley Quartet. Dance Festivals included those of Mme. Betti Muschietto and Mme. Maria Poporello. Finally, among the local educational institutions that used the hall were: The Perkins Institution and Massachusetts School for the Blind, Harvard University, Boston College, Boston University, Holy Cross College, Emerson College of Oratory, and Simmons College.
