The Office of Media and News Services collection contains news and media coverage of the University of Colorado, Boulder by local and national news stations, as well as teaching materials and a multitude of public service announcements. Formats include tape audio cassettes, reel-to-reel tapes, VHS, 3/4 U-matics and Betacams. Subject matter ranges from scientific research, including extensive coverage of Eric Cornell and Carl Wieman's Nobel Prize winning work on the Bose-Einstein condensate and the multiple inventions of CU Professor Igor Gamow, to spots on MTV's 'Tailgate Tour' and a collection of tapes on stuttering intended for classroom use. The date range of the collection spans from the mid 1980's to the early 2000's.

Fred Hellems, who compiled the two-page list of admission and graduation requirements of U.S. universities, was a Canadian who came to the University of Colorado as a Latin professor in 1898. He served as Dean of Arts and Sciences from 1899 until his death in 1929, and also was acting President in 1927-1928.
