Defending the film Viva Zapata! and the character of Emiliano Zapata. Noting that "the idea of Zapata being a Communist is simply fantastic," remarking that he was assassinated "before there was such a thing as a functioning Communist Party anywhere int he world" and that he rode into battle flanked by Catholic priests. Remarking that none of the cast has ever been "branded as Red" by the Un-American Activities Council or by the FBI and noting that communists "will hate the film because it makes a strong plea for the principles of Democracy."
