Diary, 1758-1783.

This diary relates chiefly to Metcalf's service in a Massachusetts Militia Regiment under the command of Lt. Col. Joseph Williams during the French and Indian War. Much of the information was recorded from circa May 26 to August 25, 1758. The diary details the march of troops across Massachusetts into New York State. Metcalf appears to have remained in Schenectady while other troops continued on to join General John Bradstreet's expedition to Fort Frontenac in Canada. The book also includes a roster of officers and soldiers and statistical return taken at camp in Schenectady . Later, drafts of letters and related memorandum were recorded in this book regarding grievances of Metcalf and others against the West Parish Church of Wrentham and Rev. Caleb Barnum relative to church doctrine; and memorandum on accounts related to a farm he owned in Hubbardston, Massachusetts.
