ยท Album of sketches : (MISC 1937), 62 leaves, loose in binding, containing unsigned caricatures and drawings in pencil and in ink and watercolor, text in pencil and in ink beneath. The caricature sketches and text form short narratives, somewhat like comic strips. Three drawings appear to be in a different hand. Provenance note : "Mary Elizabeth Hunter -- These sketches, by Mr. Robert Browning Senr were given to me by him, set by set as they were finished. Paris. 1859-60" -- in ink on inside front cover. Shelved under "Browning" with bound manuscript material.

Robert Browning was a British poet. Born on May 7, 1812, Browning wrote his first major work,"Pauline: a fragment of a confession" at the age of twenty. He married Elizabeth Barrett in 1826 and with her encouragement went on to become one of the major Victorian poets.
