Overton Brooks papers, 1898-1970 (bulk 1936-1961).

The Overton Brooks Papers contain correspondence, photographs, speeches, travel diaries, scrapbooks, picture albums, artifacts, and printed materials documenting primarily Brooks' service as representative for the 4th U.S. Congressional District of Louisiana. The papers reflect his interests and activities in military affairs, water-related issues such as flood control and levees in Louisiana, the development of American aerospace technology, and Louisiana political campaigns. The papers also contain materials concerning his service during World War I, family life, and funeral.

Overton Brooks (1897-1961) was born near Baton Rouge, La. He served in Europe during the First World War with the Sixth Field Artillery, First Division, Regular Army. Brooks received a law degree from Louisiana State University in 1923, was admitted to the bar the same year, and commenced practice in Shreveport, La.
