Culin Archival Collection Series 5: Research and writings 1885-1928, n.d.

Series 5 is comprised of research materials collected to support Culin's work in the Museum and his writings and lectures, as well as manuscripts, typescripts and reprints his writings. Subseries 5.2 contains manuscripts, typescripts and reprints of Culin's ethnological studies in three areas: Native American, Asian, and eastern European objects. Included are typescripts of lectures about Asian culture and design, a bound volume of lectures entitled "Indians of the Southwest," and two major unpublished typescripts, "The Road to Beauty" (starting in Budapest, Culin's place by place search for beauty in relation to every day activities), and "The Narrative of Nakahama Manjirō," as well as a few "Culin stories" (fictional pieces based upon his experiences). Biographical material, Culin bibliographies, reprints of his "Primitive American Art" and "The Magic of Color," and pamphlets complete the subseries.
