Contains materials related to Rivlin's scientific research work including two bound volumes of his published articles, notes on scientific topics, lecture notes, notebooks, correspondence with other scientists and colleagues, book chapters and drafts, conferences, organizations, etc. Includes a significant amount of correspondence from Rivlin on letterhead stationery of Lehigh University, Center for the Application of Mathematics. Also includes numerous related published articles by other scientists and mathematicians, particularly those of C. [Clifford] Truesdell. Also includes a small number of publicity portrait photographs of Rivlin (b&w and color) and numerous snapshots (b&w) of attendees and events at the 4th International Congress on Rheology held in Providence, Rhode Island in 1963.

Ronald Samuel Rivlin (1915-2005) was a British-American physicist, mathematician, rheologist and a noted expert on rubber. He was one of creators of the modern theory of large elastic deformations and helped found the field of finite elasticity. In 1985 he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering.
