The Ellison Osborne Medical Advertisement Collection, c. 1900-1905, n.d., consists of twelve folders of collected material relating to patent medicine and medical treatment advertisements. These materials passed from Mr. Osborne of Cabal, S.C. into the possession of Dr. James Twombley of Dillon, S.C., who in turn gave them to colleague and friend, E. Carwile LeRoy, of Charleston. The collection is arranged by product, malady, and/or manufacturer. The collection documents quack medical devises such as electric belts for hernias and tonics for epilepsy, dropsy, incontinence, impotence, and nervous disorders. In general all products relate to men's health. Also included are testimonials, physician endorsements, order forms, and promotional literature. Product manufacturers and physicians include Pulvermacher's Galvanic Co., Victor Chemical Co., Marston Remedy Co., Theo. Noel Co., Von Mohl Co., Civiale Remedial Agency, F.C. Fowler, William H. May, W.S. Rice, Andrew Chrystal, M.A. McLaughlin, J. Newton Hathaway, and others.
