The collection is comprised of material related to Ed Ruscha's photography of two iconic Los Angeles streets: Sunset Boulevard (1965-2001, 14 shoots) and Hollywood Boulevard (1973-2005, three shoots). In general, each shoot has a corresponding set of negatives, proof sheets, and contact prints, and related documentation including prints, film, video tapes, DVDs, and CDs. Also included are the two completed artworks, along with their production materials, that emerged out of these shoots: the artist's book Every building on Sunset Strip (1966); and Ruscha's limited edition portfolio Then & now: Hollywood Boulevard 1973-2004 (2005). The former includes four first edition copies of the publication, one of them annotated by Ruscha, while the latter is one of six artist's proofs. The production materials include the original camera-ready maquette for Every building on the Sunset Strip, as well as test versions, paste-ups, and other materials such as the Thomas guide Ruscha used while photographing the streets. There are also photographs and materials related to his later portfolio Sunset Strip (1995).
