Typed letter signed : London, to Mrs. Walter Edmonds, 1952 Aug. 15.

Eliot's cover letter for the return to an obscure American playwright of Scarsdale, N.Y., of the "typescripts of certain plays of yours," which were sent to him by the English playwright Christopher Fry. Mrs. Edmonds had hoped that Faber and Faber might publish them. Eliot declines, noting that "there is no market for the text of plays" unless they have already been successfully produced, or if the authors are renowned for their work in other genres of writing. He further observes that it "is not feasible to publish an American author in England," or vice versa, unless the author has "established some reputation in his or her native country."
