Oral History Interview with Robert LeBaron, 2003 June 16--July 7.

LeBaron interviewed by Dr. Martin T. Olliff at LeBaron's home in Columbia, Ala., June 16, 23, and July 7, 2003. These interviews were part of the Archives of Wiregrass History and Culture (AWHC) Veterans History Project. LeBaron spoke for 6 hours about his service in the Navy and life as a submariner and 3 hours about his post-service career at the Farley Nuclear Power plant in Houston County, Ala. LeBaron allowed the AWHC to digitally copy 90 of his slides documenting life aboard the nuclear subs USS Henry Clay and Thomas Jefferson. LeBaron used the slides as memory aids during the interviews.

LeBaron, born in Hiattsville, Md., in 1945, served served in the US Navy submarine service, 1964 to 1972. He was a Machinist's Mate in the nuclear engine room aboard the USS Henry Clay and USS Thomas Jefferson, stationed in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. After leaving the Navy, LeBaron worked for Alabama Power Company at its Farley Nuclear Plant in Houston County, Ala. He is retired in Columbia, Ala.
