This collection consists of correspondence from John Forsyth to Governor David B. Mitchell, Richard Henry Wilde, Nicholas Biddle, Lewis J. Cist, H.A. Muhlenberg, Governor George R. Gilmer, Martin Van Buren, and Paul Rossignol. The topics concerned include the Yazoo lands court decision, Florida, banking, the Georgia State Seal, and various political issues. The collection also includes a copy of an engraving of John Forsyth.

John Forsyth (1780-1841) was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on October 22. He graduated from Princeton in 1799 and was admitted to the bar in 1802. In 1808, Forsyth became the Attorney-General of Georgia. He was elected governor of Georgia in 1828. He married Clara Meigs, daughter of Josiah Meigs, who was the first president of Franklin College (later named the University of Georgia). Forsyth died on October 21, 1841.
