Williams as an "Eyewitness Reporter... on Events of 1876 in South Carolina," discussing his memories of events of the 1870s. This volume of collected articles does not include the final month of his essays, which ended 13 Mar. 1927 [see newspaper for remainder of the series]. Topics discussed include the Hamburg Massacre and other events relating to the violence and unrest that accompanied the end of Reconstruction in S.C., including the Hamburg Massacre or Riot, the election campaign and contested results between Wade Hampton III and incumbent Daniel Henry Chamberlain in 1876, the "Red Shirts," etc. Published in The State newspaper, in each Sunday issue, 8 Aug. 1926 - 13 Mar. 1927.
