Alfred "Alf" Mossman Landon (September 9, 1887 – October 12, 1987) was an American politician from the Republican Party. He served as the twenty-sixth Governor of Kansas from 1933 to 1937. He was the Republican Party's nominee in the 1936 presidential election, but was defeated in a landslide by incumbent President Franklin D. Roosevelt who won the electoral college vote 523 to 8. McCoy received his B.A. from the University of Denver in 1949, his M.A. from the University of Chicago in 1949, and his Ph.D. in 1954 from American Univerity. He joined the faculty in 1957, reaching full Professor status in 1964. He was named a University Distinguished Professor in 1974 and retired in 1995.
