Fred Hellems, who compiled the two-page list of admission and graduation requirements of U.S. universities, was a Canadian who came to the University of Colorado as a Latin professor in 1898. He served as Dean of Arts and Sciences from 1899 until his death in 1929, and also was acting President in 1927-1928. Gordon Alexander was born August 18, 1901, in Rock Hill, Missouri. He served for 35 years on the faculty of the University of Colorado until his retirement in July, 1966. From 1939 to 1958, he was head of the Biology Department. Dr. Alexander received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Princeton University during 1924-26.
