The Theophilus G. Steward Research Collection includes correspondence regarding Professor Seraile's research compiled for his biography "Voice of Dissent: Theophilus Gould Steward (1843-1924) and Black America." The collection includes correspondence with Steward's descendants, other individuals and repositories along with research material that he gathered from a number of institutions. Also included is the second draft of the manuscript.

Clergyman, author and educator. Steward became a minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1861 and served congregations in Macon, Georgia, Brooklyn, New York, Philadelphia, Wilmington, Delaware, Washington, D. C., and Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He was also the chaplain for the 25th Infantry where he served in the Philippine Islands and Cuba.
