Biographical and position papers of Massachusetts State Senator and U.S. Congressman Hastings Keith. Includes 10 folders on the Cape Cod National Seashore, including bills H.R. 5786, H.R. 989, introduced by Hasting Keith promoting the establishment of the Cape Cod National Seashore. Also included is an oral history transcript from the Library of Congress recording the major bills and achievements of this former congressman. Position Papers include the Tanker Disaster Act of 1967 and papers and correspondence concerning the controversial creation of a wildlife refuge on Monomoy Island the the debated Phase Down of the Otis Air Force Base. Other issues covered in Keith's papers include: Nantucket Sound Island Trust, Naushon Trust, Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, Penn Central Rail freight service shutdown and the Plymouth-Provincetown Celebration Committee. Included in this collection are photographs (38 items) dated 1967 related to Congressman Keith.

The Honorable Hastings Keith, A Representative from Massachusetts, was born in Brockton, Mass., November 22, 1915. He was elected as a Republican to the 86th Congress and six succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1959 - January 3, 1973). Congressman Keith retired to his summer property in Bourne, Mass.
