Harry Flood Byrd, Jr., miscellaneous papers, 1953-2005.

The collection contains memoranda to Byrd on his votes to cut spending; copies of a constitutent letter with enclosed check to the Byrd for President fund, 1971; memoranda and clippings pertaining to his 1976 Senate race; speech notes, 1975; memoranda on the federal budget and Byrd's economy vote record; and his handwritten notes on a federal bail-out of New York City, 1975. The collection also contains copies of a bill introduced by Byrd in 1973 to limit individual campaign contributions; menus for luncheon hosted by Senator and Mrs. Byrd for senators; a note from Jesse Helms, 2001; letter from E.R. Combs, 1953, with attached clipping on Byrd's support for "pay as you go" roads; a Byrd editorial, 1957, castigating Agnes E. Meyer for belittling Virginia's "primitive" counties; a letter of advice to his grandchildren enclosing a letter from John D. Rockefeller to his son; a complimentary letter from Byrd to Judge Janis Graham Jack; memorandum and notes from a conference call with Peter Yates on sending a reporter to Mississippi in the wake of Hurrican Katrina, 2005; advertisement and floor plans regarding the sale of "Rosemont"; and a Byrd family tree. The collection also contains an issue of the Richmond Times Dispatch, 1978 October 22, on Virginia senators. With these is a small [restrictred] file of personnel notes regarding senatorial staff.

Dalton was Commonwealth's Attorney for Radford, Virginia and state senator from 1944-1960. He was the Republican Party candidate for governor in 1953 and 1957.
