Nguyễn Văn Hưngson worked as an administrator for an American engineering company in Vietnam before joining the South Vietnamese Air Force in 1968. He was trained in the United States and flew until April 30, 1975, when he escaped from Vietnam for the United States, eventually settling in Shreveport, La.
