Gillis W. Long of Rapides Parish, La., served seven terms in the U.S. House of Representative from the Louisiana 8th Congressional District (1963-65, 1973-1985). He was a member of the Long family, a prominent political family of Louisiana. Huey Pierce Long, Russell B. Long, George Shannon Long, Speedy O. Long, and Earl K. Long were among his cousins.
