Major responsibilities of the Press Office under Governor George W. Bush included issuing press releases and media advisories on the activities and actions of the Governor, as well as First Lady Laura Bush, and writing speeches for the Governor and the First Lady. The records are composed entirely of videotapes and audiotapes received from the Press Office of Governor George W. Bush. Dates range from 1990 to 2000 and undated with the bulk of records dating from 1995 to 2000. The records are divided into two series: "Videotapes" and "Audiotapes." The "Videotapes" series, 1990 to 2000 and undated, bulk 1995 to 2000, contains approximately 175 videotapes, in both Beta and VHS formats. Topics include taped television appearances and interviews, speeches, press conferences, bill signings, public service announcements, ceremonies, and announcements, among others. The series "Audiotapes," 1996 to 1999 and undated, is composed of approximately 245 audiotapes. Some tapes are numbered, #1-#83 (January 1996-March 1998), but many numbers are duplicated since the numbering began over again at #1 in January 1997 and January 1998. Ten of the tapes are microcassettes; the others are audiocassette format. Topics included taped appearances and interviews, speeches by Governor Bush and Texas First Lady Laura Bush, press and news conferences, bill signings, ceremonies, and announcements, among others. Titles have been taken directly from tape labels. The full form is not apparent for some of the abbreviations used.
