Walnut slant-front desk; flat top; front folds down onto top drawers to reveal writing area; central cabinet door flanked by rows of drawers with carved shells, cubbies with scalloped sides, and bottom drawers with concave fronts; graduated drawers on chest; molding at base; ogee bracket feet. Savery, William, 1721 or 1722-1787

William Savery was possibly apprenticed to Solomon Fussell of Philadelphia between 1735 to 1741. He advertised regularly in Philadelphia papers between 1750 and 1772 and was probably working until his death in 1787. It is not known whether he himself carved the items he constructed.
