[Collection of bills and letters relating to business activities]. 1805-1878, 1853-1878 (bulk dates).

Of the twenty-three items in this group, seven bear the name of D.C. Brainard and have to do with seeds and vegetables. Also included are letters exchanged with London, England, and Toronto, Canada, firms. Eight items concern Shaker transactions, through Edward Fowler, with Albany, N.Y., printing business of Charles Van Benthuysen (labels, catalogues of merchandise, billheads, cards, and price lists); with herb and medicine dealers; and with the Matteawan Machine and Manufacturing Company, which had provided the New Lebanon, N.Y., community with a steam boiler. A bill dated 1805-1808 is headed "rec'd from the Chh at Canaan," and includes charges for sheep, tubs and pails, great wheels, cotton yarn, seeds of various kinds, flax, cards, chairs, twist and filling, whipstocks, boards, watermelons, and other items. Two bills from Jonathan Wood list charges for grinding grains.
