James Garland letter, 1816 January 24.

James Garland, a captain in the Royal Navy, wrote to an unidentified friend in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1816. He expressed his great affection for Hartford and his appreciation for a map of Connecticut he received while visiting there. He mentioned a hearing he had in Hartford followed by a blessing from Reverend Morgan, and he also extended his love to the Goodwins and Hudsons. Most significantly, however, are the records of conversations and his observations on the HMS Bellerophon when Napoleon Bonaparte was brought on board following his surrender to the British.
